About Welcome! It is my passion to hold a different kind of space for you. Helping others to see, care for & return to who they truly are is what I love to do. I have extensive experience in trauma-informed therapy and believe that anxiety is a result of unresolved trauma that we have not (yet) healed. But there is hope! I believe we are all incredibly resilient and, so long as we are alive & breathing, there is always an available path back to health. Who I Am. I am, first and foremost, a human, a wife, and a mother who has walked through my own difficulties with anxiety, grief, depression and people pleasing with the help of trusted and loved counselors & mentors. I have been to therapy that has not been particularly helpful, and I have experienced profound inner change from the right therapist and modality for me. Therapy has given me the ability to see myself (and the world) more clearly, and gain the ability to love who I am. This does not mean I don’t have any faults- quite the opposite! But I can see them, adjust and move on with greater resilience and less exhaustion from doubt, self-criticism and overthinking. I have such passion for this work because I myself have experienced the process of therapy and change. Professionally, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Approved LPC Supervisor in the state of Texas (#66068). I earned my Bachelors degree in Psychology from Schreiner University in Kerrville (2006), and hold a Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas State University (2009). Since 2009, I have worked in community & nonprofit agencies, alternative schools, and private practice. I have extensive experience in working with women, helping professionals, parents, & families living with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, bereavement, chronic health concerns and stressful life transitions. Though I have been in this profession for 14 years, I love continuously reading & learning. I have completed additional trainings in levels 1 and 2 of the Gottman Method (a research based therapy for couples), NARM level 2 (NeuroAffective Relational Model, focused on addressing attachment, relational & developmental trauma), EMDR (a research based trauma therapy), and kids yoga (a mindful & fun practice that aids parent-child connection). I am also currently a Training Assistant in the NARM level 2 training. My approach to counseling is person-centered, and grounded in existential, experiential & trauma-informed theory. Finding connection between body, mind & spirit is an integral part of my sessions. Because I believe the space I create within myself directly impacts my ability to connect with & attune to my clients, I participate in regular consultation, supervision, and my own personal therapy. What is counseling like? I will invite you to get curious about what you love about yourself and want more of, and what you desire to change. We can explore what’s in your heart, and tap into your innate wisdom. In this space, you have permission to think, to feel, to BE exactly as you are. We will explore how your thoughts, emotions, & physical sensations are interconnected and practice observing and continuing- or changing- your reactions. Together, we will identify helpful, and not so helpful patterns, thoughts, & strategies. Then, YOU can decide how you wish to be. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
