Counseling Welcome! My name is Gillian Amaro I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas (license #66068) I work with: *Individuals who feel stuck in a stressful cycle of overworking or overthinking *Counselors and helping professionals who hope to experience greater energy, joy and balance between their personal and professional life. *Adults & individuals wanting support through the grief, chronic illness, or bereavement process *Couples who desire deeper connection & clearer communication *Adults who desire to work together on family communication as they move towards transitions such as marriage, bringing baby home, or helping to care for a parent I have extensive experience in working with trauma, attachment/developmental trauma, anxiety, and grief/bereavement. I am actively and regularly involved in creating greater awareness of my own cultural bias related to race, culture, and sexuality through education, advocacy and conversation. Counseling services include: Adult individual therapy Individual therapy for teens (high school & older) NARM therapy (complex, developmental trauma) EMDR therapy (shock trauma) Family counseling (families of teens and adults) Couples counseling (Gottman Method) Group Therapy LPC supervision Common reasons people call: Improving capacity for resilience Improving confidence & self-assurance Deepening relationships Feeling steadier during life transitions Deepening connection to ourselves as women & mothers Increasing hope & energy Grief & Loss/Bereavement Work-Life balance/stress reduction Pregnancy & Postpartum Needs Relief from school/life pressure Exploring relationship concerns Reducing Anxiety symptoms Reducing Depression symptoms Reducing ADD/ADHD symptoms What you can expect: Counseling is above all, a relationship in which a counselor walks beside you, listening to your story, offering support, and challenging you at key moments. I primarily use the NARM model in all of my counseling, including my sessions with couples and families. This method allows me to gently invite clients and families to explore the deeper patterns beneath our behaviors- together, with less judgment, guilt and shame. I will invite you to get curious about what you love about yourself and want more of, and what you desire to change. We can explore what’s in your heart, and tap into your innate wisdom. In this space, you have permission to think, to feel, to BE exactly as you are. We will explore how your thoughts, emotions, & physical sensations are interconnected and practice observing and continuing- or changing your reactions, at a pace that feels safe for you. Group & individual counseling sessions are always by appointment only. After you call, we will set up a 10-15 minute phone consultation where I will ask you some questions about what you are wanting from counseling, and I will answer any questions you have about working with me. However, coming in for your first appointment may still feel a little intimidating. Like any new endeavor, it can be challenging, and the first visit is often the hardest step. Here are some pointers that may help: Your first session will include an assessment of what your needs are, as well as an explanation of what to expect (and what not to expect) from counseling, especially if you have never previously been in therapy. I will also prompt you at the first session for any questions you have regarding the counseling process, the paperwork you completed, or me. It may be a good idea to write down specific goals you want to achieve and some of the areas you are currently struggling with, or would like to examine further. If you know you want to come in, but are unsure as to what specifically you need help with, that’s OK too. We will figure it out together! * Finances: Initial 15 minute phone consultation: free Intake/first session: $200/50 minute intake session Individuals, couples and families: $185/50 minute session Groups: $50/session ($25/60 minutes) (more information here) CEU group sessions: $60/session ($30/60 minutes) (more information here) Workshops (vary depending on location, CEU’s & times selected) * Insurance: As of March 1, 2019, I will no longer file insurance as an in-network insurance provider.
